A record percentage (93.68) of Self Assessment tax returns were completed by the 11.59pm 31 January 2019, HMRC revealed.
Over 11.5 million taxpayers were required to file their 2017/28 tax returns, and just 700,000 taxpayers missed the deadline.
More than 700,000 taxpayers submitted their tax returns on deadline day. Between 4pm and 5pm was the most popular hour for filing, with 60,000 filed.
The vast majority (10.1 million) filed online.
