Thousands of victims of fraud could find that they are entitled to reclaim money and assets with the release of further details from the Panama papers this morning (09/05/2016), Steven Philippsohn, senior partner at PCB, a specialist fraud litigation firm, has said.

The International Corsortium of Investigative Journalists has today published the largest ever release of information about offshore companies and the people behind them, based on data from the Panama Papers investigation.

The new wave of disclosures relates to more than approximately 200,000 offshore entities with links to people in more than 200 countries and territories.

Mr Philippsohn said the leak of information would bring with it an opportunity to reclaim money previously lost to fraud.

“The key to opening the door to combating fraud and recovering assets is information, and this leak gives us more than ever before.

“The disclosures so far are merely a prelude to the cases that are likely to emerge over the coming days and weeks.

“We expect to see the exposure of more structures which have been devised, not to cheat the taxman, but to cheat fraud and other victims of huge global corporations, wealthy individuals, divorcees and those seeking to hide assets and evade judgments.

“Obtaining this information could open up possibilities for thousands of fraud and other victims to recover money and assets to which they are entitled.”
