Popstar pays tax authorities nearly £18m but faces further bills and potential jail time

According to a report in Spanish newspaper, El Periodico, Colombian popstar Shakira has handed over almost £18 million to Spanish tax authorities, stemming from a tax dispute from 2011.

The singer - who sang the 2010 World Cup theme song and is partner to Spain and Barcelona defender Gerard Pique - has reportedly handed over EUR20 million (£17.6 million) to the Spanish tax man relating to earnings in 2011 but is facing further tax bills and potential jail time (although unlikely given the precendence in previous high profile cases) over her 2012-14 tax bill.
