Monday

London law firm Brecher hired Rod Smith as a private wealth partner. Mr Smith has over 20 years’ experience in advising on high value, complex and multi-jurisdictional matters. He has joined from Royds Withy King, where he was head of private client in its London office for nearly three years.

London law firm Boodle Hatfield published ‘Lessons in Legacy’ - a four-part thought leadership series exploring what legacy means to families and individuals in the 21st century. The first instalment brings together new data and insights laying out the current landscape of private wealth.

Tuesday

International law firm Withers grew its commercial real estate practice through the addition of partners Simon Ewing and Ruby Dalal, consultant Eleanor Newton, and associate Vanessa Jones. The new team all join from Charles Russell Speechlys, where Mr Ewing occupied a number of senior management roles, as well as heading up the firm's real estate global private wealth group, and Ms Dalal co-headed the India and data centre groups.

Wednesday

Tax advisory firm Saffery Champness appointed Stuart Macdougall as a partner in its London office. Mr Macdougall joined Saffery Champness from PwC where he has been leading audit engagements as a responsible individual (RI) for over six years. Since qualifying in 2008, Mr Macdougall has spent his career providing audit, assurance and advisory services to entrepreneurs, owner-managed businesses and private equity backed companies. 

For families in Asia and globally, philanthropy has become a tool for preparing the next generation (next-gen) to take over their businesses, a survey by HSBC Global Private Banking showed. Amongst all respondents, 23 percent of families said the next-gen was actively involved in philanthropy, the third most common role behind the strategy and planning (44 percent) and finance (36 percent) business functions respectively.

Thursday

Offshore law firm Mourant is to acquire Luxembourg law firm, LexField, and its affiliated governance services business, FideField. The acquisition will enable Mourant to provide clients with legal, corporate and entity management services from Luxembourg, the second largest global funds centre.

Former eprivateclient Top 35 Under 35 Carla Plater joined Carey Olsen as a senior associate. In this role, she will be joining Carey Olsen’s trusts and private wealth team. Prior to joining the offshore law firm, she was an associate at fellow offshore law firm Walkers for just over five years.

Friday

Offshore law firm Appleby hired Giles Corbin as a consultant in its private client & trust team in Jersey. Mr Corbin joins from fellow offshore law firm Mourant after over 12 and a half years. Mr Corbin has worked on a number of ultra-high and high value Jersey trusts and foundations and acts for trustees, family offices and individuals (including settlors, beneficiaries and protectors).

Standard Bank has appointed Emma Dantec as head of client services, Jersey. She will work in the bank's international fiduciary services team. The Jersey-based team she has joined administers a variety of international corporate and fiduciary structures holding a range of assets from discretionary portfolios and property to private company shares.
