New report finds majority of wealthy Africans are self-made

The majority (56 percent) of African high net worth individuals (HNWIs) are self-made entrepreneurs, a new survey has found.

According to Standard Bank Group’s Africa Wealth Report 2020, just nine percent gained their wealth through inheritance or multi-generational wealth.

The survey also found that the continent's political environment is the greatest concern to preserving wealth, with 63 percent stating this. This was closely followed by personal security and safety (58 percent).
