Whistleblower reports to HMRC have increased by almost half (47 percent) in the past year, according to research by international law firm RPC.
This represents an increase of over 50,000 from 106,920 in 2021/22 to 157,270 in 2022/23.
Adam Craggs, partner and head of the RPC's tax disputes, financial crime and regulatory team cited the Covid-19 support initiatives such as the furlough scheme, which HMRC is responsible for investigating and Eat Out to Help Out.
