In this long-awaited decision, the Court of Appeal (Underhill, Moylan and King LJJ) had to deal with a number of old chestnuts in the jurisprudence on financial awards on divorce. The parties had married in 2008 and separated in 2015.
They were aged 50 and 48 and had one child who had a rare life-threatening condition and disabilities; most of his care had been undertaken and arranged by the wife.
