End of freedom of movement of 'great concern' for EEA nationals in the UK

Freedom of movement between the UK and the European Union (EU) is to end on the first day of a no-deal Brexit.

Home Secretary Priti Patel announced earlier this week (19 August) that, in the event of a no-deal Brexit, freedom of movement would end on the 31 October, overturning Theresa May’s government’s plans.

The details of this new system have not yet been announced, with the Home Office stating “improvements to the previous government’s plans for a new immigration system are being developed and the government will set out its plans shortly.”
