Group behind the Panama Papers receives $4.5 million philanthropic grant

The International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ), the group that were behind the investigation of leaked documents from Panama law firm Mossack Fonseca, have received a three-year grant of up to $4.5 million.

The grant is from the Omidyar Network, which was established by eBay founder Pierre Omidyar and describes itself as philanthropic investment firm. It plans to donate $100 million to “tackle some of the root causes of the global trust deficit” in the wake of the rise of ‘fake news’.
