Number of private landlords drop as costs rise

The number of unincorporated landlords declaring rental income for 2020/21 was 50,000 lower than the previous tax year, HMRC statistics showed. 

Alongside this, private landlords' total income dropped by 11 percent between 2016 and 2021 despite rising rental prices. 

Total property income declared in 2016 to 2017 was £46 billion, compared with £41 billion in 2020 to 2021.
