Single people less likely to plan for retirement than their married counterparts

Married couples or those with children are more likely to have planned for retirement than single people, law firm Irwin Mitchell has claimed.

New research from the law firm and YouGov found 40 percent of adults aged 40 and over who have never been married hadn’t planned for retirement, but just 23 percent of married people over 40 hadn’t.

Married couples aged 40+ were far more likely to know what income they needed for retirement and how to achieve it, with 32 percent of married people choosing this option compared with just 17 percent of single adults aged 40 and over.
