Sunday Times tax list: How much do the UK's top 50 taxpayers pay?

While the very rich are often under scrutiny for avoiding tax or not paying their fair share, the top 50 UK taxpayers collectively pay £2.5 billion of tax a year, with the minimum share being £20.4 million, according to the Sunday Times’ Tax List 2020.

Topping the list, paying £276 million, was Denise Coates and family. She runs gambling empire Bet365, which is 93.3 percent owned by herself and other family members, including her brother and her father. Ms Coates’ PAYE salary attracted a £310 million Income Tax and National Insurance bill alone. The Sunday Times estimated her family’s wealth was £6.9 billion in 2019.
