Thursday

The Supreme Court has overturned decisions by the High Court and Court of Appeal to rule in favour of a mother looking to keep her child in the UK. The UK’s highest court was asked to consider if the Court of Appeal had been entitled to make a summary order for the child’s return to Israel under the inherent jurisdiction, and if so, had that jurisdiction been exercised correctly

Midlands-based law firm Timms Solicitors’ head of wills & probate, Jo Robinson, has been made a partner. Ms Robinson, who has been with Timms for 18 months, joins Fiona Moffat, Tessa Dunleavy, Lisa Collett and Matthew Rice in the firm's partnership.

London law firm DKLM has appointed Hilesh Chavda as head of private client. Mr Chavda joins the firm from Royds Withy King having  previously worked at City law firms, Maurice Turner Gardner and Trowers & Hamlins.

Confirmation that one of the UK’s banks accidentally held onto 9,000 wills of deceased customers, highlights the importance of ensuring that more than one copy is stored, law firm Wilsons advised. The private client specialist firm warned of the problems that can be created if a will goes astray.
