Monday

International legal and professional services firm Ince announced the launch of an integrated private wealth offering which the firm said will provide a range of legal and wealth advisory services and solutions for high-net-worth individuals, families, business owners and entrepreneurs with complex financial affairs, in the UK and internationally.

The UK’s Charity Commission opened a statutory inquiry into Fashion for Relief, over concerns about potential misconduct and/or mismanagement. The charity - founded by British supermodel Naomi Campbell in 2005 - was previously the subject of a compliance case. During that case, which opened in September 2020, the Commission identified a range of regulatory concerns relating to the governance and finances of the charity.

Tuesday

UK legal and professional services firm Gateley bolstered its offering to individuals with senior hires in its private client tax and reputational management teams. Lynette Bober was recruited into the firm’s private client tax team as a tax director from Rawlinson & Hunter, whilst Rory Lynch was also recruited to Gateley to bolster its reputation management offering as a legal director and head of the firm’s reputation management team in London.

The International Network of Financial Centres for Sustainability (FC4S) added Jersey as its 39th member globally. FC4S is a collective of international financial centres (IFCs) working together to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals and meet the targets laid out in the Paris Agreement.

Wednesday

UK law firm Farrer & Co announced that it was adding Edward Floyd as a partner in the firm's family team from 6 December 2021. He is joining from Penningtons Manches Cooper, where he was a partner in its London office. Advising a broad range of clients, including City professionals and entrepreneurs, Mr Floyd is a specialist family lawyer who covers the full spectrum of family law issues.

UK law firm Taylor Rose MW more than doubled the number of consultant solicitors in its legal consultancy division within the past year. With over 350 consultant lawyers at present, the number of consultants working within its practice is currently increasing by 15-20 per month. According to the firm, momentum has been helped by the impact of Covid-19.

Thursday

The Office for Tax Simplification (OTS) has made numerous proposals to change the complicated tax system over the years and despite this, the UK government’s “highly anticipated” response on Inheritance Tax (IHT) and Capital Gains Tax (CGT) reforms is muted at best with many within the private wealth sector are seeing this as a missed opportunity to make much needed changes to simplify these complicated taxes.

UK tax advisory firm Grant Thornton appointed Matthew Pannell as a director to lead its existing US-UK private client tax advisory and compliance team in London. He joined from EY Frank Hirth where he was a senior manager for 10 years before becoming a director for three years. He was named as an eprivateclient Top 35 under 35 in 2016.

Accountancy firm Rawlinson & Hunter appointed Alex Jones as a partner in its US/UK transatlantic tax team. Mr Jones joined from EY Frank Hirth and has over 30 years of experience in US and UK personal tax, providing planning and assistance to high-net-worth individuals.

Research from UK law firm Irwin Mitchell discovered that fewer than half of divorcees remain friends following a split, while 52 percent have reservations about the entire divorce process. The poll, taken earlier this year, asked 1,000 divorcees about their experience getting divorced, and whether their relationship ending had been an amicable situation.
