UK law firm Macfarlanes hired Tom Henderson as head of trusts and personal tax. He joined from Charles Russell Speechlys, where he was head of trusts for just over a year. In that role, Mr Henderson was responsible for the international law firm’s trust administration business. Mr Henderson had joined Charles Russell Speechlys in April 2022 from Rawlinson & Hunter, where he established the firm’s Zurich office and started its Swiss trust company.

MDR Mayfair – an arm of law firm Mishcon de Reya - appointed Azeem Rafiq and Dylan Hartley as consultants within its sports and entertainment division in Mayfair. The pair have played at an elite level in their respective sports during their careers. Mr Rafiq is a former professional cricketer who played cricket in England for Yorkshire County Cricket Club and made his senior debut at the age of 17. He also captained the England under-15 and under-19 sides, and in 2012 became the youngest man to captain a Yorkshire side. Meanwhile, Mr Hartley is a former England Rugby captain and played for the Northampton Saints. His professional career spans 16 years and he is currently England’s most capped hooker of all time.

International law firm Charles Russell Speechlys appointed a former director at Barclays Private Bank as head of its soon-to-launch private office. Marcus Yorke-Long joined the law firm after 12 years at Barclays, where he looked after many of the bank’s ultra-high net worth and family office clients. He has experience in advising large family offices, with structures valued above £500 million, on how to best service their global assets and corporate exposures. Mr Yorke-Long’s appointment comes ahead of the official launch of its private office in September.

Charles Russell Speechlys features again having hired Vanessa Duff as a partner within its family team. Ms Duff joined the firm’s Hong Kong office from Withers Hong Kong. She has over 15 years of experience advising high net worth individuals, professionals and entrepreneurs on all aspects of family law. Much of Ms Duff’s work involves advising on and drafting prenuptial/postnuptial agreements, cohabitation agreements and separation agreements. Ms Duff also deals with international relocation cases and High Court cases of child abduction.

Litigation law firm Boies Schiller Flexner hired Pierre Valentin as a partner focused on art law. Mr Valentin brings a practice group of five lawyers with him, including Fionnuala Rogers, Tom Christopherson and Penny Walker, who will join as of counsel, and Emelyne Peticca and Mona Yapova, who will join as associates. The team – assisting clients all over the world – will divide its time between London and Milan. Prior to joining BSF, Mr Valentin was a partner at American boutique law firm, Constantin Cannon, where he founded and led it art and cultural property group. Before that he worked as a partner at Withers where he founded its art and cultural assets group in 2003 and headed this international group until late 2012. Before that he spent six years at Sotheby's.

London-law firm Boodle Hatfield strengthened its private client & tax department with the appointment of specialist corporate tax partner Andrew Loan. Mr Loan joined Boodle Hatfield from Fieldfisher where he was a tax partner. At Fieldfisher, he advised on a variety of corporate tax and VAT matters, particularly taxation issues in the context of acquisitions and disposals of public and private companies, and also the taxation of corporate groups, finance, real estate and investment funds, and tax investigations and disputes. Mr Loan has also been a tax partner at Macfarlanes and served as an officer of the taxes committee of the International Bar Association for several years.

UK law firm Michelmores appointed Iwan Williams as a partner in its Cheltenham-based tax, trusts and succession team within the firm’s private wealth group. Mr Williams has experience of dealing with all aspects of succession and tax planning for high and ultra net worth individuals and business owning families and has joined the firm from Shakespeare Martineau where he was a partner and had worked for the past two years. Prior to that, Mr Williams – who was named as an eprivateclient Top 35 Under 35 in 2020 – worked at Charles Russell Speechlys for seven years.

Mr Briggs joined from boutique private client practice The Burnside Partnership, and specialises in personal tax, estate and succession planning for UK and international individuals and families.

US law firm Pryor Cashman hired Marcy Katz as a partner in the firm's family law group and as a member of its private client practice. Ms Katz has joined Pryor Cashman from McLaughlin & Stern, where she was a partner and co-chair of its family law group. Ms Katz’s primary practice spans all areas of family and matrimonial law, including divorce, child custody, spousal and child support, and prenuptial, postnuptial, and separation agreements. Since 2006, she has been actively litigating in Supreme, Family, and Federal Courts.
