America under President Trump operates with a simple rule – don’t do what we do, do what we say. So Washington attacks tax avoidance worldwide, but does nothing about its own cosy tax shelters and arrangements at home.

I have long considered America’s FATCA regulations to be among the most pernicious set of cross-border tax rules ever introduced, giving Washington terrifying extra-territorial powers to spread its tax policing far and wide.

Why, at the rate the US is interfering outside its borders, one could envisage the Trump White House invading Greenland before too long.
