Inheritance tax receipts rise 10pc year-on-year

Inheritance tax (IHT) receipts for April 2022 to May 2022 were £1.1 billion. This is £0.1 billion – or 10 percent - higher than the same period a year earlier.

There are a range of factors contributing to this continued increase in IHT receipts.

These include: rising asset prices, meaning the value of estates is rising, as well as an increase in deaths during the pandemic, leading to more estates being settled.
