Jean Pierre Cuoni: death of a private banking giant

Jean Pierre Cuoni, co-founder and former chairman of EFG International, died on 18 February.

Mr Cuoni had a long and distinguished career in private banking before co-founding what became EFG International, where he was its chairman from 1997 to 2015 before becoming honorary chairman in 2015.

This included a 28-year stint at Citibank as well as time at Coutts, where he was chief executive of Coutts & Co. International Private Bank from 1990 to 1994.

Jean Pierre Cuoni was very much the “spiritus animus” of EFG and was held in great affection by the many staff that knew him around...
