The largest bank in the eurozone wants to take a chunk of UK private banking

Santander Group, which bills itself as the largest bank in the eurozone, has been gearing up for an assault on the UK private banking sector.

The appointment of Barclays Wealth veteran Ben Covey as UK head of private banking underlines the Spanish group’s ambitions. He reports to Charlotte Platts, head of wealth for the Spanish banking group’s UK business.

Mr Covey was most recently divisional manager for South West and Central at Santander Private Banking, where he oversaw the development and implementation of the strategy across the region as well as the shaping of its brand and culture.
