The top predators in the African wealth jungle

Investec, the Anglo-South African group, turns out to own the lion’s share of the African wealth management market, with more than double the client assets of its nearest rival.

In data compiled on the basis of African-sourced assets under management, Investec had accumulated $24 billion as of end-2016.

That compares with an estimated value for the African wealth management market of $132 billion, according to New World Wealth, a consultancy.  Around $76 billion of this is held in South Africa, helping Investec to dominate the assets under management league tables.
