£9.2 billion remains in discontinued child savings scheme

There was still £9.2 billion into Child Trust Funds (CTFs) in April 2020.

The average holding is £1,500 and 5.1 million CTFs did have any money paid into them during 2019/20, according to HMRC data.

Launched in 2005, children born between 1 September 2002 and 1 January 2011 qualified for a CTF. Each child received a voucher worth £250 - or £500 for those from lower income families - which their parents could choose to put into a cash account, or an investment CTF.
