Deloitte said that all UK staff will be able to choose “when, where and how they work” in the future, once it is safe to do so. The firm has had extended flexible working in place since 2014. While less than half of its UK workforce worked from home on a regular basis before Covid-19, the pandemic has accelerated the firm’s hybrid working model. Up to 20,000 Deloitte staff in the UK have worked from home or remotely since March last year.

Fellow Big 4 advisory firm PwC launched its new global strategy - The New Equation - with the firm set to invest $12 billion in new technology, talent and skills and plans to hire 100,000 net new jobs over the next five years. $3 billion will go towards strengthening the quality of services, including $1 billion for developing technology.

Wednesday

US law firm Harrison & Held snapped up 13 lawyers from Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner. The firm said the hirings were a “significant step toward solidifying its position as the only truly national private wealth-focused law firm” added that the new team should add to the firm's depth, "expanding capabilities both nationally and internationally".

The annual 2021 Cost of Living City rankings produced by asset management firm Mercer saw new locations climb up the table as countries continue to struggle with the economic, political and health fall outs lockdowns have wrought. Mercer’s 2021 rankings found Ashgabat the most expensive city for international employees, pushing Hong Kong to second place. Beirut ranked third, climbing 42 positions up the ranking as a result of a severe and extensive economic depression.

Thursday

Whether the pandemic is giving potential applicants more time to reflect on making a move or the ongoing ramifications of Brexit, Jersey is set to record one of its highest numbers of new ‘high-value’ residents this year, offshore law firm Appleby claimed. At the end of May, seventeen applications from wealthy individuals have been approved. The annual target is fifteen.

Addington Chambers, a “virtual” international barristers’ chambers specialising in tax and revenue law, grew by two members, taking the numbers of barristers at the chambers to sixteen. The new members are: Andy Wood, a chartered tax adviser and barrister at ETC Tax, and Ross Harman, a chartered tax adviser and barrister at Korean law firm Lee & Ko.

Finally, one of the City’s most iconic networking events, the Gulls’ Eggs Luncheon, is set to return for its 33rd year on 28 September 2021. Guests will be welcomed to Drapers’ Hall on London’s Throgmorton Avenue for this unique event which has developed a loyal following since its inception 33 years ago.
