UK inflation has faltered on its way down, surprising markets by coming in at 4.0 percent in December 2023.
This is a slight uptick in the 3.9 percent recorded in November.
Richard Carter, head of fixed interest research at Quilter Cheviot, noted while this figure is not drastically higher, it “shows that the UK’s battle against inflation is not yet over and the situation remains precarious”.
