The firm has launched ‘Expat-Repat’ to help British workers negotiate the financial challenges involved in repatriating to the UK, including tax compliance, repatriation of foreign currency, mortgage broking, and pension contributions

Panama has been rated ‘partially compliant’ for tax transparency by the OECD's Global Forum on Transparency and Exchange of Information for Tax Purposes. In a peer review assessment, the forum stated that challenges still remain, in particular to ensure the availability of accounting information

Edwin Coe has appointed Sean Bannister as its new head of tax. He replaces former eprivateclient 50 Most Influential Frank Strachan, who left the firm to join Mazars as head of UK tax investigations in October. A Chartered Tax Advisor, he began his career at Grant Thornton before moving to LSG. He joined Edwin Coe in 2012 and became a partner in 2015. Fund, corporate and private wealth services provider JTC has appointed Matthias Belz as head of JTC Private Office. Based in Geneva, Mr Belz will be responsible for growing and developing the JTC Private Office business. Director Rebecca Bettany, who has led the day-to-day running of JTC Private Office since its launch at the end of 2018, will continue to be involved in its development by focusing on the home markets of the UK and Channel Islands

Financial planning, legal and asset management solutions, Progeny, has launched a tax services division. The service will offer a range of tax services, from one-off specialist advice to ongoing personal tax compliance, as part of its multi-disciplined professional advisory offering. The new tax service offering will be led by Tony Maleham and Adele Swaine, who join the firm from Mazars

UK law firm Irwin Mitchell has appointed Zahra Pabani as a partner in its family law team. She will divide her time between Irwin Mitchell’s Birmingham and London offices. Ms Pabani joins from Shakespeare Martineau, where she was a partner for four years

The UK’s Labour Party launches its 2019 General Election manifesto which features “significant changes to the UK tax system” with reform of IHT, CGT and Income Tax targeted by the party

International law practice Osborne Clarke has appointed Matthew Briggs as a senior associate in its London private client team. Mr Briggs has joined from Taylor Wessing and specialises in tax, estate and succession planning for individuals and families, often with an international focus
